The Art of Listening

Listening is a skill that has to be cultivated. It is a discipline. You can hear and not listen, just like you can talk and not truly speak words of value to the conversation.

To listen, you must strip off the noise and other things that have the potential to suppress your ability to hear. The more you hear, the more clear things become to you. The clearer you are able to hear, the more clear you are in knowing the way you should go.

God Has Some Very Good Advice

Be still.

Be still and just listen.

Listen to your heart, be guided by the still small voice of your spirit. This is where God lives, within your heart underneath all the stuff you have tried on to try and satisfy your soul.

It hasn’t satisfied or you wouldn’t still be searching.

Dig past that rubble and sit with him, enter into that place with him and listen. Listen to his love for you, listen as He comforts you.

Listen as He tells you who you are. Allow him to disrobe you of the things and labels you have allowed to identify you. Just be, and in this place He will visit you in a profound way.

Psalm 46:10 puts it this way…

Be Still
          Be Still and Know
                    Be still and know that
Be still and know that I am God

My Dad

My Father has a hearing aid and when it is turned off everything is muffled and He speaks louder than usual, but when it is turned on his hearing is very clear.

He can hear more than the average person. He has a device that enables things to be amplified; sometimes so much that it almost hurts his ears.

You also have the supernatural ability to hear, to hear things that are to come by the power of the Holy Spirit.

For the Holy Spirit will teach you in the very hour what you ought to say
Luke 12:12

Knowing what to say comes from what you have been able to hear.

God’s word to you will not return void but it will accomplish that which he has sent it forth to do. His words are always effective; they are always right on time.

A word spoken in due season is like apples of gold in settings of silver.
Proverbs-25:11

Therefore, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning, if what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the son and in the Father.
I John 2:24

You Gotta Know What’s In You

Let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning…. What did you hear in the beginning?

Wasn’t it that God loves you? In the beginning it was the love of God that drew you. Who or what hindered that in you?

What made you turn from the love of God into a performance of jumping through hoops. It is the love of God that causes us to abide. Staying and remaining with someone comes out of love not out of law.

But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone to teach you, but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in him.
1 John 2:27
