Men and Grocery Stores

Colourful_shopping_carts;

You know the look.

Terror.

Confusion.

Bewilderment.

The look of a man when He is asked to go to the grocery store. I started noticing the blood drain from my husband’s face when I asked if he minded picking up something on his way home from an appointment. Seemed like a simple enough task, until I noticed drops of blood beading off his forehead as we conversed. I was taken aback by the sheer terror in his face. I mean it’s just a bag of cheese. The follow-up phone calls about the complexity of how many bags of cheese before him, how many ounces they contained, was taking my man down a long winding road of despair. Don’t get me started on the yogurt.

So, there he is somewhere in the middle, sandwiched between a million choices with the looming thoughts of defeat entering his mind. I feel kinda bad for my man; I mean, I feel like he could have a panic attack. It was at this point, I realized I loved him too much to ask him to go to the produce aisle too.

It’s the same way I feel when I run into the auto parts store, or God help me, when I attempt to do anything tech related. Not my field. This is when the blood begins to drain from my face. In fact, I’ve been known to shut down any electronic piece of equipment with one touch of my finger, I know it’s a gift. Ask Doug.

The Difference in Men and Women

Not all, but many women love shopping. Ironically, most men don’t. They have a direct approach, get it and go.

Seriously? Get it and go… go where? I mean, we have arrived at our destination and the objective is to shop.

All my lady friends and I like to sashay our way through the aisles and handle, observe and consider our purchases. Sorry, online shopping friends, there is no comparison to the live experience. It can feel like a mini-vacation. You know, a little retail therapy. Awww.. the smell of the mall can give us hope.

It can give a man hives, but to us girls, it’s hope on a rack.

I mean what is not to love?

Shopping to a woman is like sports to a man. They don’t get us and we don’t get them so God gives us girlfriends!

Shopping with a Man

When we go shopping together, Doug is always one prepared man, armed with an iPad or his kindle, He scopes the place out for the men’s hangout.  You know, a dressing room where a chair calls out to all the men. You know girls, you see the husbands congregating, coming up with their diabolical plan to get us out of there. They think it will work; they are strategizing together like a CEO business board meeting.

But I tell you, we are tough, armed with shopping perseverance and comfy shoes for the task at hand. If you’re in Target, He can pop a squat with a Starbucks. He’s loving it, you can tell with his glazed over look when you tell him about just one more store you want to hit.” C’mon, It’ll be fun she said.” His facial expression wasn’t screaming fun, more like terror and disbelief.

Celebrate the Differences

Personally, I love gender differences because God has  made us so different. I celebrate the differences! No competition here. In fact, I feel kinda bad for our guys. I mean, PMS and Menopause. It’s hormone hell and although they don’t feel it like we do, give them a break. They live with us. I mean I can get on my own nerves.

Sorry Caitlynn Jenner, no woman of the year award coming from me. It was just simply strange and odd, but  heartbreaking too. Most people I know thought so. The media  tries to convince the world through their liberal broadcasting that it was a monumental moment in history. What exactly was the award for? I’m not one to be politically correct and I  think it’s awesome to celebrate our differences in our genders.

Jesus the Women’s Liberator

Jesus was the greatest women’s liberator there ever was or ever will be. He was and is all man. Tough, yet tender.

He would crack a whip yet whisper to your heart and dry your tears. This is the man girls. Cool, calm and confident in his authority yet tender and compassionate.

Jesus is the perfect example of the wholeness of a man. Not afraid of his strength or tenderness.

Back to My Story

Anywho, back to our shopping adventure. And yes it is an adventure.

We even at times choose our outfits according to what type of shopping we will be doing. Oh my, I can’t wear those shoes to try on clothes, way too much work, they must be flip flops. Now if it’s gonna be a long day we must wear comfortable shoes. If it’s a short day and only a store or two A heel works.

Quirky little people are all of us ladies. My husband is the beat to my heart and I’m always scared he’s gonna be surprised about me and my quirks. (As if he isn’t already aware. chuckle, chuckle.) With that said, men will never really get us girls, not like Jesus does; some may think they do but you know as well as I do we have our own code language. Jesus gets us. Boy does he get us and he loves all of our quirks.

I gotta go friends, because Doug is dying to go shop with me. I Know, who woulda thunk it.

Leave one descriptive word about your husband and the grocery store.
